9 Romance Books to Explore Your Kinky Side

red shoe with handcuffs

Let’s bust the kink myth. Especially since our Hurts So Good Bawdy Bookworms Box is kink themed.

Basically, kink is any sexual practices, concepts, or fantasies that isn’t part of the social norm. If you want to get technical, anything outside of missionary, heterosexual monogamous sex is considered kink. While I’m all for missionary sex, it can be boring if that’s all there is to sex.

We’ve been trained to believe that any type of unconventional sexual desire is freakish and only naughty folks practice kink. Don’t believe them. When most of us hear the word “kink,” we think of Fifty Shades of Grey. BDSM is just one type of kink. But there’s so many different types (as you’ll see in the book list).

There’s freakish or dirty about kink. Our sexual desires are different and when find someone who shares similar desires, why not go for it? Kink is more than just the act of sex. In fact, some kink doesn’t involve sex. Kink play involves physical, emotional, and mental play. And boy can it be fun!

For those of us who are interested in new-to-us kink, romance books are a good place to start. The books on this list explore not just the physicalities of their character’s preferred kink, but what goes on in the mind of those who practice it.

So hang onto your nipple clamps and read these books!
